The celebrated UK star Helen Mirren, currently winner of an Academy Award, several BAFTA honors, Golden Globe wins, five Emmy Awards, and a Tony, will soon add another esteemed prize to her collection: the Cecil B. DeMille Golden Globe lifetime achievement award.

Ceremony Details

The actress, eighty, formerly honored as a dame back in 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow in 2014, will receive the accolade at an event January 8, just prior to the main Golden Globes occur, as part of a program described by the Golden Globes as the “Golden Eve”.

Additionally featuring the awarding of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett prize for small-screen contributions, whose winner has yet to be announced. Previous recipients featured Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Helen Mirren is an unstoppable talent, with a career is nothing short of exceptional,” said the Golden Globes president, Helen Hoehne. “Her captivating roles and commitment to her craft persistently influence numerous actors and audiences alike. It is a profound honour to bestow upon her the DeMille prize.”

Professional Journey

Mirren became well-known during the seventies via important performances in theater in London’s theater district and with the Royal Shakespeare Company and in films including O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

Back in the 90s, her lead performance in the investigative show Prime Suspect increased her popularity even more. Additional notable movies feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She received an Oscar for her portrayal as the Queen in 2006 film The Queen, a role she revisited during 2013 for The Audience, the stage production by Peter Morgan about the meetings involving the monarch and the PM the former PM, and for which she received a Tony Award back in 2015.

Current and Forthcoming Appearances

• Later-career movies include Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, for which she provided narration.
• Mirren’s turn in the Netflix version for The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and awards buzz is increasing regarding her role as a terminally ill matriarch in Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June.
• Upcoming, Mirren will be seen as Patricia Highsmith in Corbijn’s dramatic film, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nods will be announced December 8, with Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Zhao’s Hamnet along with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
