Person That Grabbed Ariana Grande during Red Carpet Event Prohibited from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality who vaulted across a fence and grabbed Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been expelled and barred from Singapore.
The individual, twenty-six, was handed a penalty to nine days in prison for causing a public disturbance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority told Singaporean press.
Wen pushed beyond security and charged at the celebrity, who was attending the Asian premier for the film on November 13. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
He has a background of disrupting concerts and celebrity events, including rushing the stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year.
The event provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with several individuals claiming he of causing further distress to the star.
The celebrity has spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist bombing at her show in the UK city in May 2017 took the lives of 22 people and hurt numerous attendees.
In the legal process, the authorities learned he had tried to gain access on the red carpet event on two occasions, according to local news sources.
He then made a second attempt to breach security. Protection personnel stopped him and restrained him.
He then uploaded recordings appreciating the celebrity for permitting his access and said he was "at liberty."
Police took him into custody the next day and accused him with disorderly conduct, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Presiding Judge the judicial official was quoted by media reports as remarking that he was looking for publicity, commenting that he was incorrect to think he would not face any penalties.
The actress has not spoken about the situation.
Erivo discussed the situation to NBC, remarking that she "only aimed to verify my colleague was protected."
"I think he didn't intend us danger, but you can't predict with these incidents, and I wanted to confirm that she was alright. That was my first instinct," she said.
