Citizens have come together throughout the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-led assault on October 7th, 2023, as talks proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.

The attack resulted in more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured back to Gaza as hostages. It was the most most lethal day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are considered accurate by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"Our aggressive adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister added on that day.

He also vowed to "achieve all the goals of the war: the release of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will not pose a risk to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed formal commemorations until mid-October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still took place throughout the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of Israelis killed in the Hamas attack was held in Tel Aviv. Put together by the affected families, it was broadcast on Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was held across the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, both sides' negotiating teams convened in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a continuing round of indirect talks to review the provisions of the plan.

A high-ranking delegate familiar with the talks said that an evening round of negotiations started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official explained the day's discussions ended without concrete outcomes, because of disagreements over the suggested Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to make certain Israel does not restart combat after the first phase of the deal.

He commented that the negotiations are "tough and have not yet produce any significant progress," but noted that facilitators are making efforts to narrow the gaps between the two sides.

Essential Issues in Negotiations

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The swap of the hostages still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies provision
  • Future governance of the region

Citizen Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's public square earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling survived the assault on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were lost their lives and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - told: "No place feels like home now and until every captive come back no one will feel safe."

"Once we see everyone home once more, we can breathe once more. Then we can commence rebuild," she added.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people gathered to show their solidarity for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel reports 48 stay in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be surviving.

Demonstrator a participant explained: "It's necessary do any agreement necessary for the captives to come back home. But we truly desire promises that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that approximately seventy percent of Israelis want the hostilities to conclude in return for the freedom of the captives.

Gaza Conditions

At the area of the gathering, mourners gathered to honor the dead.

From that location, the noise of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers said the heavy Israeli attacks persisted.

In the urban center, bombardments were noted in the morning of that day in the west side Tal al-Hawa, area and zone districts and in the east side area of the community, as well the camp to the north-west.

"As the night arrives, the fear appears with it," displaced Gaza City resident a local woman, whose young son was killed by an Israeli bombing last year, shared.

"We are fearful of the attacks. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, holding each other, especially my youngest child who puts his head on me the entire evening."

"Every second we check the updates to see developments. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be completed and that the war will return to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The healthcare center in Gaza City announced it had taken in the remains of several people by the midday, including a trio who died in an Israeli bombing in the southern district.

Nasser hospital in the south region of that area said two more dead people had been delivered. An individual was lost his life by Israeli forces while looking for help to the south, medical staff said.

The territory's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
